Turning the HVAC on engages the A/C compressor. Is it seized? Does the engine only stall if it's idling?

Good thought MC. When he said "shuts off" I never thought of a stall. I assumed a power (current) loss.

    Re: Checking the purge line!!!

it stalls when its idling. I turned it on and kept my foot on the gas and smoke began to pour out from under the hood in the area of the compressor. I guess the smoke was coming from the belt if ac is seized!!

Seems like one thing after another lately!!

    Re: Checking the purge line!!!

Went out this morning and started the car, yesterday it would run fine as long as I didn't turn the ac or heat on. Well, I turned the ac on and it did not stall and blew ice cold air!!!Then switched it to heat and it continued to run fine! What the Heck???

Perhaps it was cold enough not to engage the compressor. I think it gets disabled around 35F. What happens when you use defrost? That overrides everything and enables the compressor regardless of temperature.
