    2004 Deville check coolant light

I am losing a little less than a gallon a week of coolant from both the right and left front of the car right under the radiator. Engine is not running hot. Am thinking about taking it in with the Carchex warranty. Pepboys, Goodyear, Sears, Midas. Any thoughts on what this might be or those shops.

Also have had a consistent check gas cap light even after changing gas cap. The only code is P0455 Evaporative emission gross leak or no flow.

Re: 2004 Cadillac Deville check coolant light

The leak may be from one or both of the radiator side tanks. They are a composite and tend to crack and seep over time.

Any shop can be good or bad. All depends on the knowledge and skill of the mechanics and how it is managed.

Check all the vacuum lines on the EVAP system.

Good luck finding a side tank separately anywhere. Not worth the extra work anyway. You need a new radiator.

Even if you can find them, I don't think a whole new radiator is that much more.

the radiator I HIGHLY RECOMMEND - is the SPECTRA PREMIUM #CU2491 -
assuming you do not have a DTS model with the Engine Oil Cooler -

ebay has the best price - $101.95 - with free shipping -
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/SPECTRA-PREM...3217f9&vxp=mtr

if - for some reason - you don't want to use ebay -
amazon has this radiator for $131.75 - with free shipping -
    http://www.amazon.com/Spectra-Premiu.../dp/B000C7QHJY

autozone wants over $180 for it -

Thanks all, it was the outlet tank on the passenger side. Radiator hoses thermostat and gaskets 1198 at pepboys. They said 4 hours labor. Carchex warranty is paying 6 of it otherwise I'd be passed about the high price. Do you all think that pricing is fair

Someone is paying top retail and max labor on that job. I'll bet that you could assemble all those parts plus coolant for less than $250. That puts the labor at $950 - $240 an hour.

Go to a NAPA, price out the same parts, and faint. or......... get into www.gmpartsgiant.com and price the parts there.

(The GM book labor for that job does come in at about 4 hours)

I would STRONGLY advise against having Pep Boys do the repair.

Do you all think that pricing is fair
    $1200 is RIDICULOUS -

    4 hours labor - OK - @100/hr - $400

here is what you COULD ACTUALLY buy the parts for -

    RADIATOR-
    Spectra - $102 - ebay
    ACDelco - $215 - rockauto -

    WATER PUMP -
    Gates or Bosch - $29 - rockauto -
    ACDelco $62 - rockauto -

    RADIATOR HOSES -
    LOWER -
    Gates - $6.49 - rockauto -
    ACDelco - $8.57 - rockauto -

    UPPER -
    Gates - $14.07 - rockauto -
    ACDelco - $17.78 - rockauto -

THERMOSTAT - which you DO NOT NEED -
    Stant - $10.05 - rockauto
    ACDelco - $21.79 - rockauto

    THERMOSTAT - WITH HOUSING -
    ACDelco - $53.79 - rockauto -

    new coolant - $20 -
    new coolant - $30 -
    ------------------
TOTAL you could actually buy the parts for $181.61

    $400 - labor @100/hr
    $182 - parts
    -----------
    $582 - TOTAL
    ----------------------

even using ALL the expensive ACDelco parts -
    WHICH I GUARANTEE THEY DIDN'T USE -
total parts cost would still only be
    $387.14 -
    $400.00 labor
    ------------
    $787.14 TOTAL -
