No Power Steering On My 1995 Deville With 4.9L Motor

I had my 95 Deville stored for about 6 months, but when I had problems with my daily driver, I charged the battery and started driving the Deville. It has about 91,000 miles on the car. After a couple of days of driving (maybe 40 miles), I parked it in my driveway overnight, and when I went to use it the next day, the steering was completely non-operational. I backed the car up 10 feet or so, and I was unable to even turn the steering wheel, so I drive it back into the same spot. I assumed that I must be low on fluid, but when I checked it, it was fine. It seems like I am used to seeing the fluid in the reservoir moving about and even splashing around a bit, but there was absolutely no movement of the fluid inside the reservoir. I was wondering if the shaft on the P/S pump could be broken, but I read somewhere that it could be the EVO valve. I don't want to do the "replace parts until it works" approach, and I can't drive it to my mechanic with no steering.

    HELP!!!

That IS possible. I had that happen once. A simple test would be to remove or just remove the tension from the serpentine belt and see if the pulley spins freely.

GOOD ANSWER! In fact, it's a GREAT ANSWER! I removed the belt from the pump pulley, and tried to turn the pulley. It felt really stiff, and then turned and started coming right out of the housing. I didn't pull it out all the way, but I was real sure that the pulley shaft was not supposed to do that.

Thanx again. I will file this under "WDITOT" (Why didn't I think of that?)
