    Secondary air injection and transmission codes - 2002 Deville?

    Can use some help on code I got Secondary air Injection, Can someone explain what that is? got that when service engine light came on. Is that something that needs fixing now? Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Post the code and it's definition.

    The secondary air injection system is a blower aka "air pump" that blows fresh air into the exhaust manifolds for about 40 seconds after a cold start to quickly lite off the CAT, thus shortening the time it runs without the CAT in operation, theoretically getting to a cleaner exhaust more quickly. If you need to pass an emissions test, it must be operating. If not, you can ignore it if you can live with the SES light on.

    Thanks for the secondary air injection answer I will just live with that, Now have p0741 had it checked at advance auto with there code reader is this a big problem for me or should I have it fixed or is it something I can do? I'm new to the forum and just got this car about two weeks ago.

    P0741 by itself, without any other TCC related codes, is a leaking seal inside the torque converter . The fix is converter replacement, which means transmission out. HUGE, expensive job.

    If you don't have to pass yearly inspections, you can drive the car indefinitely with the problem. The only symptom will be that the engine will run 200/300 RPMs faster at steady cruising speeds above 42 MPH.

    Also, your car has a built in code reader. See the "sticky" thread at the top of the FWD Deville/Fleetwood page on how to pull DTCs.

    2002 transmission?

    I"ve got p0741 code what will happen if I keep driveing with this code does it mean the tranny will go out or is this something you can live with awhile, need some help on this don't want to buy a new tranny at a dealer, I think dealer would cgarge more than the car is worth, Any thoughts on this problem. Thanks

    Nothing will happen except that you'll have to clear the code to turn off the SES light every other trip. I am living with it now.

    it cost me $2000.00 to get this problem fixed. Transmission had to come out new tc installed That took care of PO741 code..expensive fix but then what isnt on these Caddies..

    If you are subjected to emissions testing, you WILL fail with that code and that is your only option unless you can get a waver based on age and cost of repair.

    Ranger could a relay be bad going to the secondary air injection pump or bad selanoid for the p0410 code or is it just the air pump giving me this code, I know you explained the light would keep coming on, I'd like to keep it off. Thanks for any help. To many $ at the dealer.

    That code is pretty vague. Could be a bad pump or one of the check valves, but without the FSM trouble tree it is hard to diagnose.

    Ranger my seconary air injection pump fuse was blown replaced and started car and fuse did not blow my ? is will this pump come on when the key is turned on and how do you know when it's running. Thanks

    The pump should come on with a cold start (not just at key on) and run for about 40 seconds. If you get out and listen carefully by the front of the LF wheel you may be able to hear it run. It's basically a high speed blower. Generally speaking a cold start will idle at about 1200 RPM for about 40 seconds while the pump is running. When it shuts down, the RPM will drop to about 900. Now if you're gonna ask if the RPM will go to 1200 if the pump doesn't run? BTSOM But I would guess that it would.

    you can hear the air pump when you start the car, my car had same issue replaced it with one from a wreaking yard solved the problem for about $100.00. had that tranny code too. had the tranny replaced due to a bad solenoid and torque converter. tranny was not cheap cost about 4 grand but now it is under a 3 year 100k warranty, my car has a warranty and it paid for he tranny thank god.

    $100 for a used pump??? ~$25 more would have gotten you a brand new one with the improved design intake hose/cover.
