Looking for Doughnut "shop" (dumb spare tire)

    Hello all,

I had to get a tire replaced yesterday due to tab nail in sidewall. The shop did not have one and was going to put the spare on, but since it was holding air and in the "hole of the trunk", never inspected it.(I know, bad, bad, bad!!). It is shot-chunk missing from tread. This being the case, they would not release the car due to safety issues.

Now am looking for a "good" place to get a new one. Cant seem to get the tire sites to come up with anything other than reg. tires.

Should the "normal" tire shops have/carry these?

    Thanks in advance.

Tire shops do not carry these worthless things, at least I have yet to find one, and GM won't sell them new, at least that's what the dealer told me. Your best bet is to go yarding, find one that looks to be in good shape, and hope for the best. That's what I did and I have yet to use my new to me spare. It holds air well but that's about all I can tell you.

Exactly what Luke said... go yarding and pray you don't need it. I've have a couple self destruct in the trunk never have being used and another last almost 2 miles. I pull em and get a fullsize spare.

Get one already mounted on the proper rim. They are only worthless when nobody checks their pressure or inspects them. Why cannt they install a used tire so you can at least, drive your car?

No they are WORTHLESS PERIOD... I checked mine and inspected them more than 99% of the people around.
When a 5 year old properly maintained spare blows out after 2 miles driving slow they are WORTHLESS.

Not the first time I've heard that.

    Mine failed as well.

However, against my recommendation, my father drive on his original spare for almost 3 months in his '93 Accord! When I had my '91 Accord, I had to use the spare for several days, and when my mother owned that car, she'd used it a few times as well. I should walk up the street and find out what brand Honda used back then.
