    A weird whine. 00 DTS

On my way to company function I noticed my car was making a whine. On the way home, a 400 mile round trip, the whine got worse. I will try my best to describe the whine.

It only happens when the car accelerates or slows down. It does not sound like metal on metal, like a wheel bearing. With the music on a normal level, the whine sounds like static? The sound doesn't overpower a sports radio station on the radio. When I put the transmission and rev the engine, the noise doesn't change. At a stop when I rev, no noise. I have no idea. Any thoughts? The car has 124k

    ----------

Don't know if this is important or not, but I feel like it is coming from the passenger side. I had all new tie rods, axles, end links and a alignment done a few weeks ago. And the noise doesn't change when I mess with the climate control. And it doesn't sound like anything is dragging.

the only thing i can think of right now that would make a whine noise is a power steering pump and the transmission

Just a guess, but did you check the power steering fluid level? To better determine where the sound is coming from, you should have the engine on with the hood open and listen closely for the source of the whine.

I just had the entire power steering pump and line replaced three weeks ago. I guess it is more of growl but the power steering feels fine.

The noise starts around 20-25mph. I will check the power steering tomorrow. I didn't have time to get my car on a lift at work so I don't know. Could it be a break ware indicator? But I would assume that would be more metal on metal. Wheel bearing?

I pulled the DTC and it's the same two codes. EVAP sensor(which I've replaced everything and it won't turn off) and rear climate switch thingy.

Now a "growl" does sound a lot like low P/S fluid level. Did whoever changed it purge the system to get all the air out?

You should check the fluid level first, but just because the level is at the "FULL" mark, it doesn't mean that there isn't air in the system like Ranger mentioned. If there is air you will see bubbles or foaming, depending on how much air is in there. If you had a shop install the pump, have them check it out because bleeding the system is a part of the install process.

Well I took it to the shop I always use, it's the wheel bearings. Both actually but the right front just started making noise. It's weird because it's not a typical wheel bearing sound I've heard but nonetheless, it'll get fixed.
