    Alternator for 1998 Deville

I think my alternator is going out. It has a noisy bearing.
Does anyone have parts recommendations? GM, rebuilt, remanufactured?
Are there any other parts that should be changed out as long as the alternator is being replaced?
Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
What is the life expectancy of an original Cadillac alternator?

    Thanks in advance,

    T-Rod

Life expectancy depends on age, miles, average engine speed, the phase of the moon and the price of corn on the commodities market.

Use an AC Delco alternator - talk to Chris in parts at Rippy Cadillac over there >>>>>>>>>>>

    Murderous job.

Its shouldnt be too difficult if you can get the car high up enough. 3 ton hydraulic jack would be best. At least it wasnt so, on mine

Mine went out a month ago, no noise, no warning. When it stopped working, the dash info said "Battery not Charging". I was on the freeway and went about 10 miles and the car completely shut down, and I mean completely shut down. Had to get it towed and then I was at the mercy of a Sears mechanic 100 miles from my house, expensive. If you think it's going out, I would get it tested and if it is, replace it now before it strands you!

i Jus went thru this last night...

Except instead of calling a tow truck i hooked up my Battery Jumper Box to the battery, sat it towards the front over the cooling fans and closed the hood to the first latch on top of it... it got me home 12miles away... the jumper box kept the battery at about 12.9 but by the time i got home it was at 12.7

Get a DELCO remanufactured, not rebuilt. A rebuilt by definition means only the defective parts were replaced. A reman. will have all new parts inside. And fellas, he's not describing a failing alternator, he's saying its noisy.
