2000 Deville Dies after A/C is turned on

Turned on the car tonight a/c was set to full heard a clunk and the car died, did a restart no clunk but the rpm's dropped dead in about 5 seconds, then turned the car back on with no a/c drove for a bit then turned a/c on again and it died with in about 5 seconds unless I kept my foot on the gas no codes except for 1599 any ideas? Battery is good. Thanks

Your A/C compressor is probably seizing up and bogging down the engine.

    What's the code definition?

The only other explanation would be a faulty IAC valve. But that wouldn't clunk.

Yeah, it sounds like when the A/C compressor clutch engages, it dies because the compressor is creating too much of a drag on the engine. It could be a bad bearing due to lack of oil caused by a leak somewhere in the system. Did the A/C making any strange noises like a squeaking or squealing sound before it started doing this?

The bearings aren't lubed by the oil in the refrigerant, they're sealed bearings.

I stand corrected. I was thinking of another car that I had to change the compressor out, due to a bad bearing caused by the PAG oil leaking out with the R134a.
