    Clunking under hood!

Well.it's time for advice from the pro's! Am delving into unknown territory here...but that's a good thing! 1989 Cad deville Sdn. 110k black beauty with merlot interior! Front suspension is tight, ball joints, hub bearing, links, bushings etc. I read on a past discussion about the steering column bearings and such which might be the next stop on my hit parade! "CLUNKING UNDER HOOD" over bumps or small potholes. Any ideas guys?

Almost sounds like it has to be suspension related.

    Re: Clunking under hood!

hey there Ranger. I know it has to be suspension. Maybe schocks sre too tight(Monroes) put on 2 yrs ago...OR...spring insulator...OR OR OR... I'll find it.
I have the 89 dev sdn,blk and red...been very good to me except for steering...oh well..made to cruise! Also picked up a cherry 88 dev coupe with 34.6K(was garaged)....it's like brand new....a litle cheaper built but the front end takes bumps like a champ! What would your choice be for your very last caddy u would want to own? THIS IS A PRETTY GOOD FORUM QUESTION!!!

Hard to say, but I like what I'm driving right now and for as much as I drive it anymore, there is a good change it MAY be the last one I ever own.

Clunking under hood....the answer...don't fix it till its broke..sometimes!

well..i thought I would share this with y'all. clunking...hmm...listening......hmm...checking all of front suspension! links, ball joint ,shocks and struts, hub bearing, gaskets, seals, bushings and greasing every metal/rubber bushing attached to the frame!...oh even the coil spring insulators. It happenened while I just passed a mechanic shop with a dubious non native American owner looking at me with dollar signs in his eyeballs. first thing he says is"smells like burnt rubber and oil!" after a short conversation I felt like putting rubber and oil on him! To his disbelief I called Geico(they towed me to my front yard for free, I pulled out my bag of goodies and extracted a caliper pin! DONE DEAL! Wish everyone would have the luck of the Irish like I did. End of story!
