Half of Deville DTS dash stops working...

I have a 2003 Deville DTS with 130K. For the second time in a about a year the speedometer, tachometer, odometer and bottom alert line (and perhaps other warning lights) have stopped working. The gas and temperature gauges continue to work. The codes will not show up because the bottom display is missing in action. After several restarts (or a hundred miles) it returns to normal. Is there some sending unit that might be causing this? A loose connection? Or is it the dash unit itself?

Any ideas?

like MC suggested -
when ir
does work - check for codes -

we would be looking for -
DIM - IPC - or IPM codes -
There were none of these codes. When I cleared the history codes there were no codes at all.

----------

Pull left side and right side carpet retainers that attach at door pillar.

There will be a black box bolted on each pillar with a 10 mm bolt.

Remove the bolt on each pillar, clean bolt with a wire brush. Clean the back of the black box's metal tab that makes contact with the body when bolted back into place.

Re -install each black box onto it's respective pillar, tighten bolt snug, don't over do it........

Hopefully this helps.....
Since there were no apparent codes, I will try this. Thanks for the help!
