The 4.9 would be the better of the two. Probably more reliable and should get better mileage.

    the 4.5 was a good engine -
but the 4.9 might be the best motor Cadillac ever produced -
certainly at the top of the list -

    which me the better fueleconomy?
    I had an 89 Coupe Deville with the throttle-body 4.5 engine -
it would get around 22.5 to 23 MPG on the highway -

I also had a '95 Deville with the 4.9 motor - one of my all-time favorite cars -
I made the 400 mile trip between Minneapolis and Chicago several times a year -
and would consistently get 28.2 to 28.6 MPG at 75MPH - with cruise on - and AC on -

How wiil be the situation for Parts
getting parts here - and getting parts in Germany are two very different things -
you are dealing with a 15 to 20+ year old Cadillac -

If you want that body style stick with 1991-93. They have the better 4.9L engine. As for parts here there are some things that need to be ordered in, usually more so then most cars because quite a few of the parts are unique to Cadillac. But that probably isn't an issue being in Germany because you'd have to order in most parts for a North American car except for the common ones you can buy over there.
