    94 Deville rear brakes

Found my squeak tonight , had it about a week , turns out my wear tabs on the pads are rubbing the rotors in the rear , so i need new pads

my question is : ive seen other gm cars with rear disc and in calaper parking brakes , and some kind of tool is needed to back off the caliper to put it back over the rotor when new pads are installed (w body gm) is the deville the same way ? better yet if someone has the proceedure around to do this id appricate it

    thanks once again

    Re: 94 Deville rear brakes

nevermind found it on this site:

    http://caddysearch.netgetgoing.com/m...es/default.asp

    heres the thread stuff :

Remove the lower sleeve bolt. Leave the upper one alone. The parking brake is held onto the assembly with a bolt on its' bracket, remove that bolt holding the bracket on. Pivot the caliper upward from the bottom where the bolt was removed. Remove the pads. The piston is retracted back into the caliper by screwing it in. If you put a "C" clamp on it and press you will break it. The tool that engages the piston to retract it is cheap and looks like a cube with lumps. I always use a pair of needle nose pliers to engage the detents on the piston rather than buy the tool.
Insert new pads. Rotate caliper back down into place. Replace the two bolts.

    Re: 94 Deville rear brakes

Thanks for the info stone caddy. I too need to do a brake job for both the front and the rear. I was wondering also what to do about that special tool that is needed to retract the the piston back into the caliper. Needle nose pliers sounds like it will do the trick. Do you know if the threads are left hand or reg? Also should I open up the bleeder valve when retracting the pistons on both the front and the rear? And is there any thing else that I should be aware of before doing the brake job? Thanks for any advice that any of you could offer. I forgot to mention my car is a 95 sedan deville if that helps.

I can't recall if the threads are left or right but I think they are right hand. The "brake cube" is only $8-$16 depending on where you get it and well worth the money. Pliers will work but be careful not to rip the dust boot. Definately open the bleeder valve before retracting the piston.
