    1999 Deville A/C issues

    Hello all,

Just changed the a/c compressor, oriface tube, and accumulator on our 99 Deville. Pulled a 30 micron vacuum for 1 hour and held it for 30 minutes before charging the system with 2lbs of 134a. The a/c instantly worked fine and even with a 30 minute test drive it was great. After about 2 hours we decided to drive to the grocery store and the a/c started up and all of a sudden quit and on the message center it read "Service A/C System". Can anyone tell me what went wrong and what I can check to fix it. BTW, all components were new and I work on commercial HVAC systems for a living. This was mt first try at automotive a/c work and it might very well be my last.
Any Chance those two thermistors at the oriface tube are the culprits?

check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes -

if you don't know how - go here and read the ENTIRE post -

Diagnostic codes in the ACM were B1314 and B1315. Also, the message center read Service A/C System. Cleared all codes and tried A/C again, but the code B1314 came back.

    Thanks for the reply.

That's what caused the service A/C message. Now post the code definitions so we know what they mean. Then we can help you.

"DTC B1314 Evaporator Inlet Temp Sensor Open CKT"

    Circuit Description
The evaporator inlet temperature sensor is a thermistor that controls the signal voltage to the heater and A/C programmer. The heater and A/C programmer supplies voltage on CKT 731. When the sensor is cold, the following conditions exist:

    • The resistance is high.

    • The heater and A/C programmer receives a high signal voltage at pin D15.

When the sensor warms, the following actions occur:

    • The resistance decreases.

    • The signal voltage is pulled low through CKT 407.

The signal voltage varies between 5 V (open circuit) and 0 V (short circuit).

I think that you should Replace the Evaporator Inlet Temp Sensor

Did you put your oriface tube in backwards? That could cause your problem I'd imagine.

    Re: 1999 Deville A/C issues

Thanks for all the help guys. I have been busy at work and could not reply. I changed the Evaporator Inlet Temp Sensor and that let the A/C come on and start working. Now for whatever reason, the compressor cycles on and off but I get no codes just cycling.(5seconds on then off). After I changed the sensor I pulled a 30 micron for 1 hour and let it set for 30 minutes agian and then weighed in exactly 2lbs of 134a. Any suggestions or ideas about how to proceed now? Agian thank you for all your help.

    ---------------------
our AC compressors should NOT cycle -
they are a variable displacement design -

short cycling is usually caused by low pressure -
or possibly a defective pressure switch -
    ------------

    to diagnose AC problems -
you need to connect a quality set of guages -

then post BOTH the HIGH pressure readings -
and the LOW pressure readings -

along with the ambient - outside - air temp -
the air discharge temp at the center AC vent -
with the temp set at 60* and a medium speed fan -
with the engine at a high idle - 1500 rpm -

I suggest you bypass the low pressure switch with a jumper wire. If it stays on and works, leave it that way. I did this to mine and it works great now cold as can be. I wrapped the low pressure switch plug with the jumper wire in it with electrical tape. It did just like yours before switched on and off and occasionally would throw the low pressure warning and disable the compressor.

Thank you for the replys. I did try jumping out the low pressure switch. It still cycles on and off. I believe if I ever get this worked out I aint never fornicating with another car A/C.

Is it overpressurizing the system and cutting out, perhaps? What does it read on the high side pressure gauge (at what ambient)?
