    Neutral safety switch

Where is the location of the neutral safety switch for the 2001 deville, I need to replace it? Also, if you can provide a diagram, that would be great.

Inside the trans pan. Called IMS (internal mode switch).

Look in my albums - there's a diagram of the 4T80E and all its internal sensors and switches. Click my username, open the profile. left column, 2 albums, 6 pages of Northstar stuff.

While you're in there, do some research on the new model pair of 1-2 and 2-3 shift solenoids. Worthwhile maintenance.

Talk to Chris in parts at Rippy Cadillac tomorrow morning. Over there >>>>>

(ooooppppssss......... AZTEC beat me to it.) but my diagram has each numbered item described

Yes, see if there is a metal bracket holding in the plastic screen between the 2 shift solenoids(#909). If there is, there should be no need to change them.

Being an '01 I'm sure he has the support bracket. It was the early '90's models that had shift solenoids fail for lack of it. The replacements came with it and later it was added to the transmissions at the factory, but I don't know exactly when that was. If I had to guess, I'd say '95 or '96.
