    1998 Deville coolant leak

Hello everyone I'm new to this forum and have a 1998 Deville with a coolant leak. I have noticed a leak running behind the back of the water pump housing and dripping on the trans. My problem is I cannot see exactly where it is coming from. I see the back of the water pump housing(at the belt) and it is leaking slightly at the water pump, not as much as I see dripping behind the housing. My question is is it possible for the crossover to leak down the back of w/p housing? I don't want to put a w/p in if I have to change crossover gaskets. In the morning I will remove belt and try to get a better look at the pump, from what I've read I certainly hope it's the pump and not the crossover.
    Thanks

Pre-2000 engines where not known for crossover gasket problems. From your description it sounds more like the WP inner seal or the shaft seal.

Thank you, I suppose the way to go would be to get a rag under w/p pulley and see if that changes leakage

There is a freeze plug in the head exactly where you described. I bought 98 deville that had a major leak there. I couldn't see where it was leaking no matter how hard I tried from the top, however if you get under the car and look up you can see the freeze plug area, as well as get a better look at the water pump gasket. I'd suggest taking a look at it that way.
