    Stop Engine temp light

1993 Deville - stop engine temp light stays on while cruising, but flashes off when accelerating or braking.... have flushed coolant system, changed thermostat and repaired head gasket leak with Steel Seal . heat and air no longer work. desperate to keep this going until next June... only 155K miles.... inherited from parents.
can you tell me what else I can possible try?

First make sure it's really overheating. Does the cooling system leak? Is the rad cap good? Is the thermostat the right one? If it has a bad headgasket you'll be wasting money at the overheating problem for nothing. Get that fixed before doing anything else. Continuing to drive can only make things worse.

repaired head gasket leak with Steel Seal
you DID NOT repair anything with that - shi - ah - stuff -
in fact - you probably caused more problems with it -

heat and air no longer work

    OK - WHAT doesn't work -
    the blower doesn't blow? -
    WHAT?
    ---------------
desperate to keep this going until next June
throwing parts at it - and dumping SNAKE-OIL in it -
is NOT going to FIX anything -

you need to properly DIAGNOSE the problem -
THEN you can REPAIR it -

    A 4.9 with bad HG's? That's not very common.

    Re: Stop Engine temp light

Sounds like the high temp switch screwed into the block drain hole if temp gets very high it closes and grounds the wire .
as you are saying it only comes on during acceleration and braking it sounds like this sensor wire is touching ground somewhere and the flexing
of the motor is breaking the grounded wire. find the wire to the sensor and make sure it is not shorting to ground.
Last check the lamp test during the key start sequence is the ignition switch causing a short to ground flaky switch.
