Chilton vs Factory Cadillac Service Manual

So is there a big difference between chilton and the factory service manual I want to pick one up but I don't know if chilton covers as much or vice versa.

    Thanks

If you're going to spend money on service manuals get the factory ones, chiltons has a fraction of the information and isn't any good when you need to trouble shoot anything.

There is an IMMENSE difference. Chiltons and Haynes books are next to worthless for these cars.

here is the best way to compare the two -

    chiltons/haynes = a pocket dictionary -

FSM = Websters unabridged dictionary -

Re: Chilton vs Factory Cadillac Service Manual

If you plan on keeping a car around for several years, I like to buy all the brands for each of our cars. Chilton will have info and images that Haynes does not, and visa-versa for quickly finding info on more common repairs.

When possible, finding a factory manual is best, but they can be also be complicated in locating specific info in the various sections. Some other vehicles I've worked on, I know have separate factory manuals and suppliments you need to find as well for ALL the info about your car. Faxon Literature is always my first website to check to get manuals for any vehicles in our extended family-fleet.

I've bought a few factory manuals off of Ebay, like for older cars. Mostly I buy from Helm Inc, for later model stuff. The time saved with good manuals makes them the only way to go.
The Haynes manuals are for folks changing their own oil in the back yard.......

    My order of preference:

GM/Helm service manuals (www.helminc.com) Large, tedious - but it's ALL there........... Look for one in eBay first.
ALLDATADIY (www.alldatadiy.com) The GM service manuals, plus so much more that you need a study course to find it all. (RPO, TSB, DTC, etc.)

Chilton & Haynes also make good bird cage liners.

    P.S.
They're too coarse for toilet paper.
