    94 Deville 4.9 Coolant Leak

Cannot detect where coolant leak is coming from. The engine can be hot or cold, but, if I start the engine or just squeeze the top hose, a steady stream of coolant comes from the center back of the engine slightly to the driver's side dripping off of the transmission pan.

It doesnt appear to be the water pump or any hoses.

    Anyone have an ideas?

    ----------

I now see that it is coming from the back of the engine just inside of where the oil filter is screwed in but, well below where the T-stat is.

Is that the coolant crossover or is that a gasket for the oil filter adapter/t-stat housing?

no coolant crossover on a 4.9 motor -

it's probably the steel heater lines that have rusted out -

there was a write-up either in Tech Tips - or the 4.9 engine forum -
how to replace them using heater hose - new steel lines are no available -

I don't think the 4.9 had those steel coolant lines like the 4.6?
Here's the 4.9 heater hose diagram. If it is coming from behind the engine I would suspect #9 or 10.

    I could be wrong - but I think #5 and #7 are steel -

#9 and #10 are heater core supply and return hoses -

Yes, part 5 and 7 in that picture are steel lines but they usually rust by the pulley. The rest of the parts are hoses. Up at the top it's usually that heater T part that goes.

In post #1 he said "I now see that it is coming from the back of the engine just inside of where the oil filter is screwed in but, well below where the T-stat is." That would lead me to look somewhere in the vicinity of #2.
