    Question 04 DHS Heated Steering

    Howdy all,
I haven't posted much of anything on here since I sold my 99 STS a couple years ago.
Over the weekend I purchased a almost mint condition 04 Pearl White DHS. I'm already in love with this thing. As far as I can tell, every single feature works on it including the heated and cooled seats... Except for the heated steering wheel. When I press the button on the steering wheel I get no LED on the button and no heat. Checked the heated steering wheel fuse and it is fine. I'm not pulling any DTCs. What would be the next thing to check?

    -Ryan

Borrow a relay from another circuit. If that makes no difference, you are digging deep inside the steering wheel/column.

Ah, didn't even think about the relay. I'll give that a swap when I get home. I also see a temperature sensor in that schematic. Could it be that it's just simply too hot in the middle of August for it to kick on?

Possibly. IF your steering wheel (car interior) temperature is much above 100 F why would you even want the steering wheel heated? I know, I know; just to check if it works.

So, fuse is okay, relay is okay. How difficult is the module to get at in the column?
At one point yesterday I pressed the button and the LED came on for a fraction of a second and then went out,and would not come on again.

Also just wanted to verify that the heated steering wheel should function with about a 70 degree interior.

Again, just trying to troubleshoot it now before the Minnesota winter.

This from the 2004 Deville Service Manual.
