2005 DHS Rear passenger temp sensor IPM B0429 repair help needed.

The other day I was driving and I reached for something in the rear seat and I felt warm air coming from the vents. I figured one of my children turned the temp to the warm. I hit the passenger off button on the dash reached back a few min later and it was still warm. I went in back and hit the temp button all the way to max cold and it made no difference. I looked up this problem online and every one said to pull my codes and I found IPM B0429 current. Looked it up and it looks like I need to replace that rear temp sensor in the system. I was wondering if any one had a diagram with photos or a video on how to do this properly.

It's not a temp sensor as such - it's the air blend door/actuator for the rear HVAC console. Cadillac Tech Tips, the GM service manual or Google "cadillac forums B 0429 rear console temp control" or something close.

(Researching this, we discovered that different cars/models may or may not have a temperature control on the rear console face. Some have fan speed and vent choice)

You need either a real GM service manual (eBay or www.helminc.com) or subscribe the car to www.alldatadiy.com

B0429 is not for a sensor, it's for the temp control actuator. Not 100% positive, but I believe it might be #18.

Thanks ranger that would explain why when drove the car today it is working properly. Do you know if it is under the carpet or in the center console?

Don't quote me, but I think that actuator is down low on the passenger side of the main HVAC stack - about next to the passenger's left calf - that carpeted side panel yanks out. If the Deville has a sound deadening panel across the area under the glove box, that might need to come out, too.

It's under the dash. Here is a wider view. It would be in the vicinity of where #29 is pointing to. You can see the two actuators on the other end.

Yes, It controls the rear temp.
It's located directly behind the light in the glovebox. Pull the glovebox liner out to access it.

After you replace the actuator you will need to either disconnect the battery or pull the fuse labeled "Instrument Panel" in the under-hood fusebox for 60 seconds or so. This will cause all the HVAC actuators to run full travel and recalibrate themselves upon power up.
