Check the wiring going to the solenoid on the deck lid to be sure it is solidly connected to the solenoid. A loose connection here would keep you from being able to open the trunk with the button. Opening it with your key does not require the solenoid to activate. If the wiring looks ok, the solenoid and/or release mechanism may be bad.
Your second problem, the "pull up on the latch" part, sounds like the trunk lid retractor mechanism (the part with the latch you are pulling up on) may need replacing. There is a metal rod running across the inside front lip of your trunk...it has exposed, slightly bent ends to allow you to tie the trunk closed when carrying bulky items. Be sure that the middle of this rod is not touching the trunk retractor mechanism's metal body...the retractor mechanisim is insulated from ground with a plastic mounting and needs to be kept that way. Carefully bend the rod away from the trunk retractor mechanism's metal body, if necessary, but don't put any stress on the retractor mounting as you can easily break the plastic insulator.
There should be a flexible metal contact strip on the top left side of the mechanism that will touch the deck lid when you are closing it. This will provide a ground to allow the mechanism to pull the trunk closed.
After checking out the above, if it still doesn't automatically extend the latch ring when you open the trunk (without having to pull on the latch), you might shop around for a used one online (they are really expensive at the dealer). If the latch solenoid on the deck lid is bad too, you should get both parts at the same time. Just be sure you specify exactly which caddy you have, to the used parts dealer as these parts vary greatly from Caddy to Caddy.
Kind of a long answer but, I own three DeVilles and had to fix two of them with the same problems you have. Good luck! |

(I get overwhelmed)...I have slowly began to see how to find info that I need. Your username has been in alot of them, and that submarine guy and you seem to know yo stuff, I really appreciate this site and you all.
I have two caddys a 01 sls and a 91 sdv, sometimes I find a older post and have responded, then I thought, I should have just asked on a new post, I try to find out what I need from the historical posts, I know some of the issues have been posted to death. so...what I had asked on the other post was help with the "trunk release button" located in the glove box, my trunk closing motor works fine if that matters? I doubt it. this is on the 91 sdv no keyless entry, (no fuel door release button in G/Box), so I was told to check the solinoid on deck lid...so I am thinking that this is where to start to trouble shoot, even though I don't know how to check a solinoid. Ha, I try to be a do it my selfer.
Thanks again |

I seem to recall responding to it. I'll continue any thought I have there. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
