If your EGR valve (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) is stuck shut or is sticky/slow it WILL cause an off-idle and acceleration ping. Remove it and clean the pintle and passages. Not sure whether your setup is electrical (operating motor) or vacuum. That's in your service manual set.

It's a combination of both. There's an electrical solenoid that passes vacuum to the valve - not a direct link to the manifold. If the solenoid is bad, no EGR.

That said, does the engine ping under certain conditions (full throttle, half throttle, cruise, etc) or all of the time?

Have you cleaned out the EGR tubes under the TB?

While it is idling reach under the valve and lift up on the diaphragm. It should kill the engine if it is working. If it doesn't, look at the tubes down in your intake manifold. Hold open the throttle, engine shut off, look to see if the tubes under the throttle plates are open or plugged.
