My fender light indicators on my 91 Coupe Deville work great except my drivers side parking light indicator. It works but ever so faintly. I removed it from the light bulb side and its connected fine. Not sure how to get to the fender marker end? Do they loose something over time and should I have the fiber optis leed changed? What is recommended?

Re: Directional fiber optic

there may be 1 or more cracks in the fiber optic line... with each crack the light is getting refracted more and more...

if it bothers you enough, you may have to replace the line.

I like to have my car 100% like it came off the line. I will have it changed.

Re: Directional fiber optic

I took both ends of mine off of my 90 deville and cleaned them real good and now they work great. The end of them has to be very clean in order to work right.

How do you get to the top of the fender end?

Re: Directional fiber optic

Just pry the housing out of the fender very carefully on the front-wheel drive ones, it just snaps into the plastic fender. Be careful though because the fender is plastic. The rear-wheel drive Brougham's I took off without anything major. Just used a long long extension to go from the bottom of the fender to the 10mm nuts on the housing.

Is there a repair procedure for a line cut in two?

If I a line is cut you have to replace it. The fiber optic cables are made up of several solid strands of plastic. Each strand allows light to travel through it and come out the other end. There is a plastic magnifying socket on the lamp and another at the lamp monitor. That allows it to make the glowing look it has. If A cable is cut or some of the strands break then the light will stop at the break. The cables are abundent at my local yard. Im not sure about new ones from the dealer. If you have some that are dull you can clean the ends of the lines with a regular household cleaner and a rag. Clean the sockets and monitors and it makes it a ton brighter.
