    Random Acceleration in Reverse

Twice now my 89 Sedan Deville has accelerated on its own in reverse. The first time I thought it was just a fluke, but it has happened again. Luckily I always keep my foot hovering the brake in reverse, so I stopped. Has anyone else heard of this happening?

    Re: Random Acceleration in Reverse

The last time I had issues with unwanted acceleration, the culprit was the ISC motor.
My problem did not happen in reverse only, though.

Strange and not very common. Could you tell if the pedal moved? If so, that would point to the ISC motor.

I have only a few days left on my warranty. DO you think I should take it in?

I could not tell if the pedal moved because my foot was over the brake.

Yes, bring it in, but if it doesn't do it while you're there, you won't get far with them.

    Re: Random Acceleration in Reverse

An unwarranted acceleration may be caused by the engine controls trying to compensate for an impending stall - the engine rpm drops, the control systems say "More gas" and away it goes.

Yes - have the idle systems and air intake systems checked.

It probably won't. It has only done it twice in a month.

    Re: Random Acceleration in Reverse

Once in a lifetime is one too many ............. have your ducks in line and try to explain the conditions under which the acceleration happens - but you really need to be one with your car to sense the impending acceleration.

I have to pick up my registration from the dealer this week. I think I'll mention it when I pop in.

    Re: Random Acceleration in Reverse

Well, they couldn't get it to repeat its problem in the shop, so they couldn't offer a fix. It hasn't done it in a while anyway. They said since it was so low mileage when I bought it, that it most likely sat in a garage for a long time (totally believable) so maybe things were just "sticky" and it worked itself out.
