Coolant dripping down flywheel housing (pics included)

    Hello everyone --

    Car: 2002 Deville

    Quick background:
    - check coolant light came on, topped off surge tank for awhile and all was well -- left the car sit for a few days and noticed a puddle of coolant about dead center of engine
-Got a pressure tester and started to look around for any leaks and found the coolant dripping off the bolts in the picture below
    deville coolant leakSM.jpg

The part in the above picture is #13 in the picture below FYI
    deville coolant leak2.JPG

I'm not very familiar with Devilles so any insight would be appreciated. I am going to get back under the car tomorrow and see if I can find anything out, hopefully someone recognizes this problem and can steer me in the right direction.
    Thank you

I'm thinking a leak at the crossover may run down at that point.

Yup. 2000+ engines seem to have crossover manifold gasket failures for some reason. Thankfully, mine failed while still under warranty. Not a fun job.

Thanks for the quick replies! I'm glad to have an idea what the problem is, although it looks to be a pain!

I found this thread http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...-pictures.html and hope that will save some time/headaches.

Anything else I should look into replacing while tackling this job?

    Thanks!

That should pretty much do it. Just be sure it is not a hose. It would suck big time to do this job for nothing.

absolutely pinpoint where that leak is coming from before touching a single bolt -

I'm still hunting for the source. It looks like the leak is coming from around the area in the first photo. I've got the pressure at ~18-20 PSI and I haven't noticed any coolant on hoses other areas, just in the picture below. Thoughts?? Thanks!

The leak is right around this area (hard to definitively tell because it's so damn cramped under there)

Pics to come...noticed a bad clamp that was allowing a small leak. Going to investigate around the water pump

Yes, that's part of the crossover.

    No clue on the marks.

Great - thank you very much!

On a positive note it appears the water pump cover is the updated one (w/ tabs) and is in good shape.

I had exact same issue. Top gasket on firewall side of crossover was leaking. If you do find this to be your issue do yourself a favor and try to tighten crossover bolts around the gasket that's leaking. In my case I was able to tighten almost a half turn when cold and an additional quarter when hot. This resolved my leak!
