    coolant leak water pump replaced

Okay before today I let my 03 DTS sit fpr weekend because u could fill it with coolant and 2 blocks down road say check coolant... anyways today I took it to the local cadillac dealeer they said leak was due to failing water pump.. so I pay $542.83 for coolant ,pump kit, gasket , thermostat, and seal.. took about 4.5 hours. . On highway ride back home 20 min in again check coolant. I get home looks fine. I come back out 2 hr later its EMPTY.. im pissed not what I consider cheap repair. . What could be causing leak? And how should I approach dealer I feel robbed right now

4.5 hrs? WOW! I suspect most of that was just waiting your turn.

Don't panic. It is not uncommon for it to take several trips to purge all the air out of the system. Granted, for $542 it should have been done at the dealer. Just top it off to the 1/2 way point and check it again after the next drive or two and you should be just fine.

    I feel robbed right now
you didn't only get ROBBED -
    you were ROYALLY SCREWED -

too bad you didn't ask us FIRST -

we could have saved you AT LEAST $250 -

you could buy a genuine ACDelco water pump - $70.25 -
    http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/200...ater_pump.html

or a brand new BOSCH - a very high quality replacement unit -
for $31.25 - if you wanted to save another $40 -

plus another $15 for coolant -

    and $10 - for a thermostat - THAT YOU DIDN'T NEED -

an independent would have charged about $150 for labor -

    TOTAL should have been around - $240 - $250
    --------
but - obviously - the water pump WASN'T the problem -
if it IS still leaking -

    What could be causing leak
    lots of things -
which is why you need to PRESSURE TEST the cooling system -
this will pin-point EXACTLY where real leak is -

And how should I approach dealer
that is a real tough question -
you COULD just take the car back -
explain that after the $550 repair - it still leaks -

what I would do is take it to an independent shop -
have THEM do a PRESSURE TEST -
and DIAGNOSE where the leak actually is -

THEN - with this knowledge -
go back to the dealer - explain there is still a leak -
ask them to do the PRESSURE TEST -
and REPORT their findings to you -

depending on what the dealer discovers -
compared to the independent shop -
would determine MY course of action -

+1 You had air in the system. Fill it up to 1/2 way again. These cars are very hard to fill from empty.

The cadillac dealer I went to while in college was way better. Very honest would take u inside the shop n show you the work needed if it was $$.. now that I graduate have "a good job" and moved back home I feel like the dealer here is fancier but knows ppl make $$ n automatically charge high..... they didnt even return my call
