Your issue is that this engine is VERY hard to fill with coolant. You are about a gallon and a 1/2 low if you just replaced the radiator and are trying to fill it.

What you describe is exactly what happens when you fill it after radiator replacement. Let it sit for 20-30 minutes and you should be able to put in another gallon or so. Your system has air in it right now and no coolant circulation because of that. If you turn on the heat you will probably not get any heat just air. Ask me how I know??

Re: radiator replaced but bubbling up out of surge tank.

Forget the cutesy Spectre aftermarket bling and go buy a $3.98 length of rubber fuel line in the proper size - take a piece of purge line with you. As posted, rubber fuel line is braid-reinforced and will easily handle the cooling system 16 or 19 psi during normal operation.

Stop trying to over-analyze the problem and replace the purge line. Get the car back on the road.

Oh ......... and pick up two proper sized band clamps, and don't break off the surge tank nipple.

You are making this WAAAAY more complicated than it needs to be. If you do not have compressed air availability (a can will not work, like Bass said), try rodding it out with a length of heavy gauge wire. 12 gauge should work quite well.

I just cleared out the line with air and I can blow through it. I am about to put it back on. If I get it flowing should I put the cap back on when circulating or not. Also I do not have to worry about putting heat on right. Thanks wish me luck.

Putting the heat on will tell you if you got the air out. No heat = you still have air. Heat = you got most of it out. It will heat up very quickly if you have air in the heater core. Like in 5 minutes it will be up to 245.

Re: radiator replaced but bubbling up out of surge tank.

On mine, I put the cap on, ran it until it was hot like 225 (like 2 minutes), then turned it off. I came back to the surge tank and you could hear the bubbling. I slowly released pressure with a hot mit until coolant started coming out. Then I closed it and went away for 20 minutes. I came back and slowly opened it. The tank was empty so I started filling and it took over a gallon. This time I got heat and temps were a steady 200 or so.

DO NOT use any pellets. That's what clogged your purge line in the first place. Now that it is clear, fill it to the proper level 1/2 - 2/3 full. Rev it to 3K and hold it for a minute. That should purge most of the air. Check it again after the next drive once it cools down and top off if necessary. It's that simple.

Mine has a readout in the DIC for exact temperature. You should not use the pellets. If your heat is running hot now, you have enough coolant in the system so that it circulates. You might need to fill it one more time after driving for awhile. But temps should remain pretty much normal.

and you mean you put 1 1/2 gallons MORE in?

I never put any pellets in. I added just 1 1/2 gallons. The heat tip helps. Ok I am going do it now will let you'll know

Never reach operating temperature with your surge tank cap off. It will start boiling at around 219 with no cap.

I cleared out the purge line and made sure it came out on surge tank side. Connected everything put cap on. Started engine let it run. Put heat to high. Got up to 3000 rpm held it for a minute. The heat started getting hot. The fans came on. Top radiator hose hot purge line hot. And crap still overheating. My dash has bars and it got up to 2 bars above normal. So I shut it down. Maybe it is eventually going to get the air out. I do not know what to do. I am going to let it sit awhile and see if coolant goes back down. Also I seen a small tiny pin hole on still part of purge line crap can this cause overheating. I don't think so. You'll been helping me a lot what should I do next.

A pin hole is not going to cause it to overheat, but there should not be any leaks. See what happens after cool down.
