Re: 2000 DTS rear coil spring replacement

Are you keeping the active suspension or downgrading to the base Deville passive suspension ? Different repair methods for each type - both mechanically and electrically - your entire suspension system is currently monitored for correct operation, height, and electronic control.

DTS = Deville Touring Sedan. To the best of my knowledge Cadillac is the only division of GM that made the Deville Touring Sedan until 2006 - the later "DTS" is not a Deville - the acronym means nothing.

Re: 2000 DTS rear coil spring replacement

Several threads on this in the first 3 or 4 pages of this forum - recent - and down in Discussions, Item Specific - Cadilac Tech Tips.

Try this: Google "cadillac forums 2000 dts strut replacement" or any other question beginning with "cadillac forums 2000 dts .......... "

While you're researching, always read all the sticky posts at the top of each forum - that's information that is important and timeless. Also, study the entire Cadillac Technical Archive way up ^^^ in the top black bar. There is important info on your car that you need to know.

Not a problem. If you ever lose the thread train of thought, go back and skim the previous posts - some advisors will edit their posts (within 24 hours) to add necessary maintenance info.

I will be replacing my rear coil springs this weekend
    WHY?
how many miles on the car?
    are they broken? -
who said you need new springs?
what brand springs are you planning on using?

i just recently replaced my shocks with monroe conversion kit

I HOPE you used the MA822 shocks -
    and NOT the 90007 "coil-over" shocks -

    --------------

    for the front struts -
the Monroe 90014 kit is the one for you -
it includes everything you need -
except new springs and the resistors -

rockauto.com has the best price - $219 plus $10 shipping - for the entire kit -

They're designed for base Devilles and DHSs (softer springs). Not advisable to mix and match.

The coil over setup hives a harsher ride, will sag under heavier loads, and several members have had problems with them becoming noisy.

coil-over shocks just plain SUCK -
compared to the original air bladder type shocks -

without a load in the back seat or trunk -
the rear will ride too high - and the ride will be harsh -
compared to a real Cadillac ride -

with a load in the back seat and trunk -
the rear will ride too low - and handling will suck -

I can't imagine who talked you into the coil-over shocks - or why -
but there were/are MUCH better options - that WOULD have saved you money -

even if the compressor - or ride-height sensor - were not working -
    the MA822 - along with the AK29 - manual fill kit -
would have been the CORRECT choice -

    MA822 - $58.25 - with free shipping -
    http://www.partsgeek.com/32syvb4-bui...ber.html?fp=pp
    AK29 - $12.75 - also from partsgeek -
    ------------------

what do you think about the monroe struts
that come already assembled with the spring

    there are two available -

    the 171685 - $115.79 each - plus shipping =
    $255 for the pair - delivered -
    from rockauto.com -

    OR the cheaper 181685 - $66.79 each - plus shipping =
    $152 for the pair - delivered -

the 171685 are a better quality strut -

the only "problem" with BOTH - 171685 and 181685 units -
are that the new springs are the "standard" base Deville and DHS - FE1 "soft" springs -
compared to the FE3 "firm" springs that came on the DTS -
this may or may not be a big deal to you -
personally - I MUCH prefer the soft Cadillac ride -

the only place you can get a new set of FE3 springs is from the dealer -
    -------------------

here is the bottom line -

    if was MY car -
I would go for the 171685 front struts -

get rid of the coil-over 90007 rear shocks -
and replace them with the Monroe MA822 -
and the AK29 manual fill kit if your compressor isn't working -

you never did say WHY you were going to replace the rear springs -

but if they DO need replacing - I would recommend -
    MOOG 81011 - $54.79 - for the PAIR - $67 with shipping -
