Can anyone offer advice on ISC ticking issues w/my 1990 Deville?

I have a 1990 Cadillac Sedan Deville with a new ISC Motor installed. Whenever I shut off the car, the ISC Motor will click/tick for about ten seconds and then stop. Sometimes after it stops I will put the accessory back on and it will tick again. Is there any cause for concern or is this normal?

My 92 would click like that but it worked fine. Some say that is a sign of a problem. I wouldn't worry as long as the car idles fine and doesn't stall anywhere.

The clicking means that the new ISC motor needs to be adjusted. Do a search here for the instructions...its an easy fix.

I've heard that is a sign of failure, but I can't swear to it. My '92 did that for as long as I can remember. Never had to replace it.

It's normal for it to move back and forth for a few seconds after you shut the car off and it makes a noise when it does that. If it's making a ticking noise like the plastic gears are snapping against each other there's something wrong.

did you follow the special procedure of setting it up after you installed it?

or did you simply bolt it in -

Re: Can anyone offer advice on ISC ticking issues w/my 1990 Deville?

1st, I took it the dealer who told me my ISC Motor is failing and it would cost me $450 out the door to have it installed. I bought one for $75 at OReillys and the kid behind the counter popped it in for $50. He adjusted theidle with a screwdriver "by sound", he didn't have an OBD1 RPM meter. It starts up fine but when I turn on/off the ACC it starts ticking. I just hope I don't need somekind of computer reprogramming or if this doesn't get adjusted soon, my car may have further mechanical problem.
    thanks!

He probably adjusted it wrong. It's been discussed many times. You should have no problem finding it with a search.

He did it wrong. The best place to start with the screw is to set it the same length the old one was and if it doesn't run right follow the proper instructions. For 94/95s it's a whole process thru diagnostics. I think it's different for the older ones.

Re: Can anyone offer advice on ISC ticking issues w/my 1990 Deville?

The process is identical for all of them, and can be completed without using diagnostics with a DVOM. What you are looking for is a slight gap between the plunger and throttle hammer with the ISC retracted and throttle closed, and a specific TPS value with the ISC fully extended (1.15v maybe? - whatever it is, this spec will set the correct gap while retracted). ISC operation is completely dependent on the TPS angle, so make sure it's correctly adjusted as well. Both need proper adjustment for the system to work correctly.

1990 Deville 4.5, Need step by step info to adjust new isc motor

I installed a new isc motor after being told by the dealer it was failing. My car now runs fine, only that the isc motor ticks for several seconds when turning on/off the ACC (you can feel the ticking on the gas pedal too!). I disconnected the battery (reset the computer), also pressed on the plunger until it stalled out (started right up). It feels smoother and is comfortable, Im just concerned about the ticking as this is a new issue. Also, it appears the engine is loping at start up until it gets warm. Any help is appreciated, I got some feedback on my other similar post (replier suggested searching the forums its a common problem) but I cannot get any solid info on the true way to be assured it is properly calibrated. Also, what is the easiest way to get the rpms? Can id do this with the climate control? Thanks for your time.

Press on the plunger until it retracts. When it bottoms out, unplug the ISC motor. Adjust the plunger to a .030 gap between it and the throttle linkage. Plug it back in.

You're going to need a feeler gauge. Cheap, pretty much any parts store.
