    New member posting!

    Hello everyone,

My name is Rick Canalita and I have owned a 05 Deville for about 4 months now, just hit 100XXX miles and mainly concerned about the HG issue. I've read that GM has pretty much fixed this problem after 04 with new, or better bolts. I want to do some of my own maintenance and will probably asking general questions as I am new to the N* engine. Have to say it's the most luxurious and comfortable car I've owned.

Other cars: 05 Honda Element, 07 Hyundai Elantra, 93 Acura Integra, 95 Nissan Pathfinder

Again, hello to everyone and I'm glad to be here.

If you're really worried, have a block test done, but 04's and on (if its been maintained properly) should be fine, enjoy the car, and drive it like you stole it, the Northstar loves to be whooped on occasionally.

05s have longer bolts (from the 2000 update) and coarser thread pitch (from the mid 2004 update) so HG issues are nearly nonexistant. If you're worried about it, you done real good by getting an 05. Change the coolant every 3 years with whatever color (no mixing them), 7.5 quarts of the weight your owners manual says, and regular unleaded.

    Welcome!

DEX and universal coolant can be mixed, as long as the bottle if universal says so.

Thanks for the welcomes and quick tips, I'm gonna do a coolant change and transmission service. Any tips on Transmission, I was gonna use the Castrol Transmax DexVI. I am wondering because I keep hearing conflicting opinions about flushing the system both coolant and transmission. Some people say not a good idea especially if you have an older vehicle, then some people say yes do a flush. Any ideas or experienced opinions? Thanks again!
