I wrecked :(

Remove this ad
Or more to the point, somebody wrecked into me...

This morning, on my way to work, someone hit me on the right. He turned to get on the road I was already on. Spun me out. I ended up facing the wrong way.

This is probably a pointless topic, but I feel like venting. That's just... not fair.

Here are pics of the damage (warning: big files):

Re: I wrecked :(

Sorry to hear the bad news, but as long as you ok. Cars can be fixed and replaced, people can't. Do you think that's a total loss or will you have it fixed?

Re: I wrecked :(

Man, that is a shame! No injuries to you or others is definitely the good news. It's hard to see that happen to an automoblie that you really enjoy. Sometimes when repaired they are never the same. I hope that you are happy and satisfied with the results.
Best of luck.

Re: I wrecked :(

Ouch! that's gotta make you hate Mondays all the more, big guy.

At least some small comfort though - the way the lower panels have crumpled and curved inward, you can tell they're are made of good old american steel, as opposed to the plastic variety so common on today's cars. Just proves how well made the cadillacs are.

Case in point: I had a run in with a Honda civic wherein he turned left right in front of my '88 DeVille with no warning, no nothing. We were both going around 30mph, so the impact was close to 60mph (hit my front and left front fender with his right front end. They ended up needing 2 tow trucks to take the chunks of Honda away to the wreckers. I DROVE my '88 DeVille to my favorite garage under it's own steam. Even with close to $7,000 damage to that car, it got fixed.

Re: I wrecked :(

You're all right. It's very true it could be worse, both for me and/or the car. I just like that car. :s

Don't know yet if it can be fixed or if it's worth it, for that matter. That's the insurance job now. At least it wasn't my fault, so I will not pay a dime. The guy even got fined by the police...

Frost, you're right, it resisted quite well considering i was going close to 50 mph. I spun for a nice distance too... I have no idea how fast he was going. Not very fast since he was turning onto the main road. He probably just applied power when he hit me, which pushed me.

Oh well, I'm calming down a bit now. It'll get taken care of, one way or the other. Already spotted some nice Devilles on sale on the net, in case the insurance doesn't think it's worth fixing.

Re: I wrecked :(

Sorry to hear that. I know how you feel..... especially if you obsess over your car like I do. I had a fit when I scraped my front end on a high curb. But crashes will happen the longer you drive. At least you weren't hurt.

Re: I wrecked :(

It looks bad, but it could have turned out a lot worse. Glad to see you made it out ok.

On the bright side I have a complete 94 deville with perfect doors...

Re: I wrecked :(

glad your ok ..

well it looks like youll need boath doors and the B pillar drug back into position , roof looks good so the b pillar cant be hurt too bad ..

without looking at it id say around 3k in damage ....shes worth a bit more than that so im thinking shes not a total...depends on how much doors are ....

if they fix it ..the only probalem i see is that the right front door may not close right but that really depends on how bent up the b pillar is ...you may be licky and it be only the trim peices that are bent out like that from the doors coming in

Re: I wrecked :(

Well I'm still waiting to hear from the shop. Another thing that went bad is the rear suspension. It sits low at the back.

Stoneage, you got it pretty much on target as far as bodywork goes. At least that's what the other guy's insurance (the one who hit me) estimated. But they're also trying to keep it down because their coverage only goes up to $5000. The other guy had the minimum legal coverage required by PA state law.

I went with my insurance instead. They can sue the guy for the rest of the money if it ends up being more. It can't be much more, the car isn't worth that much more than $5000, and that's about the private party selling price, according to kelley's blue book. Somehow I thought it was worth more.

illumina, glad to hear you're ok. Sadly I know how it feels...

Re: I wrecked :(

Well my insurance (or more to the point, the shop who did the estimate) says it's fixable for $5000. Which comes to 77.5 % of the value of the car (NADA price). I'm very surprised. For various reasons, I'd rather have it totaled (not the least of which being that there's the stupid input speed sensor on the transmission that needs fixed and that they won't do it since it apparently has nothing to do with the wreck. So it's extra money to spend for me). It seems like the shop wants to get paid for the work instead of having totaled. Kinda annoys me now. Let's hope I can change the mind of the insurance/shop. I'm sure some of you think it's worth fixing, but I don't. I don't see why I can't be given the choice of totaling or repairing.

Re: I wrecked :(

Isn't there a way for them to cut you a check and then you can decide if you wanna spend it on the fix or sell the car and pocket the money. My brother did that, ended up just pocketing the cash and driving the beat up car.
