2001 Deville wont allow me to enter diagnostics?

My friends 2001 Deville has a "service air bag" light on. Per your sticky, I held the temp knob down while pressing the info up button and held them for about 15 seconds. It will not change the display and enter diagnostics? What am I doing wrong? I want to read the air bag code to begin diagnosing the issue. Any help appreciated!!!

Fellas this car has a rotating knob for temp. A large black knob. Pressing it turns the system off. So I press off and info up.

OFF on the DIC, not on the HVAC controls.

Entering diagnostics is done WITH THE DIC BUTTONS, NOT the HVAC controls.

here is a good code reference site -
    http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm

B0065 LF/Driver Pretensioner Deployment Loop Open

Sub posted a procedure that just might fix this code -

    something like -
KEY ON - fully extend - retract - and buckle each seat belt 3 times -

run the seat fully forward and back - several times -

move the seat back fully up and fully recline -

    B0429 - really common -
it just means the "POSITION" of the rear seat temperature controller -
doesn't "match" the position recorded by the computer -

in other words - ignor it -

No need to buckle/unbuckle, or extend/retract the belts. The belts are not wired into anything, and the only electronics in the buckles is on for the drivers seat, for the seat belt reminder. The pretensioner is completely separate.

Move the seat all the way back and all the way forward.

Re: 2001 deville wont allow me to enter diagnostics?

The seat belt pretensioners are both monitored for deployment loop power and operation. They are part of the frontal SIR deployment loop monitoring system.

FWIW, the seat buckle loop contains a gas generation cylinder which RAPIDLY shortens seat belt buckle height and thus tensions both lap and shoulder belts in a frontal collision - that's also part of the monitored loop.

Thus the advice to fully - fully - extend and retract both the shoulder and lap belt retractors during the diagnosis of the SIR warning.

In the sticky post "How to pull codes" the proper procedure using the correct DIC control buttons for the OP's question on a 2001 Deville begins at the third sentence by JimD.

Any later model (to 2005) with the 3 DIC control buttons uses the same button push procedure.

    INFO ^/v = scroll
    INFO RESET = NO
    ON/OFF = YES

FOR THOSE CARS ONLY, if you are presented with the question ALL CODES ? you can press NO - then, using the buttons designated as YES, NO, and scroll (^/v) you can look at each module individually, clear codes for that module only, and step forwards or backwards in the sequence. it takes a bit of practice to get the button pushes to do what you want - but it stops the fairly rapid scrolling that prevents writing down all codes and status the first time around.
