    2002 DTS blower not working

On my 02 DTS the other day the blower just stopped. I figured it was a fuse. But then a few minutes later it started working again and has been fine since.

So now today im driving and the same thing happens. The blower just stops.

If I turn the HVAC off and back on, I feel a little air for a few second then it stops.

What should I be looking at?

There are at least two very real possibilities.

One is a poor/faulty/intermittent chassis ground connection for the Blower Motor Control Processor module. The chassis ground (G201) location is on the forward-lower section of the RF door frame. Some trim panel removal necessary, but the repair will be labor only.

Another is blower motor replacement; parts plus labor.

More than likely it'll be the blower motor is faulty. I had to replace mine last fall because it would intermittently work and not work. There's about 7 small screws that hold it in place. I think they are 5 or 6 mm head screws and the back 2 or 3 were a pain in the butt. Good luck.

Sounds like you blower is the problem but 02 has 3 different style blowers. Before tou get on you need to see what kind you have. My 02 was make in February and had the second design with foam seal and 3 bolts.

Whack it with a screwdriver handle. It may come to life and buy you a little time until the new blower arrives and you have the time to replace it.

Does it matter if i now know the rear blower doesn't work either during these outages?

edit: never mind that's totally not true at least not today. however I'm pretty sure the first time this happened the rear blower didn't work either

Re: 2002 DTS blower not working

So does anyone have a quick and dirty task list to R&R these blowers? I know there are 3 versions so I want to pull mine to see which one I have. I see they're all about $150 from Rock Auto

How difficult are they to replace?

Re: 2002 DTS blower not working

If you have the 1st design blower you are going to find out why they redesigned it. The damn thing is too big to remove and replace, there is not enough clearance between the blower mounting housing and the floorboard of the car.

You will need to pull back the carpet then take a razor knife to the carpet pad and cut out a section to give you barely enough wiggle room to get the old one out and the new one in without damaging it. Be carefull it's still very tight... and you will cuss the engineer that designed it.

If you have the newer design ignore the advice above it's smaller and therefore no clearance issue.

What needs to come out to get to the blower. I saw something about taking the glove box out? That sounds wrong?

I just removed the plastic panel under the glove box. It's held up with 2-3 screws. After that's off, you should have access to the bottom of the blower motor.
