Re: Losing 2 gallons plus a day of coolant....head gasket?

I had a '93 Mustang LX Coupe 5.0 that when it was ten years old the thing needed a complete restoration. Everything wrong with that car had nothing to do with planned obsolecense but poor build quality. I owned a '92 Seville that I bought in '05 that was built like a brick outhouse compared to that Mustang. Things that are well made tend to last and the parts that require attention, and given such, also tend to last. Cutting corners and indifference to quality seem to be the building block of planned obsolecence.

Re: Losing 2 gallons plus a day of coolant....head gasket?

I wanted a black on black 5spd Fox coupe for a long time. When I found this one it had new paint but everything else needed to be addressed. I wanted the car and got what I wanted so it is out of my system. At the same time I had a '98 GT and the two were miles apart as far as build quality went though the motor in the '98 was suitable on for a boat anchor. I just couldn't believe how bad the build quality was on that Fox. The floorboard was split, plastic parts would fall off in your hand and if you left the hood up overnight the hood would warp on the side not supported by the prop. I had to replace door pins on that thing and forget about the locks or windows working.

On the other hand, When I put it on Auto Trader I had over 30 calls in the first couple of days and it sold to the first person that came to see it. She sold herself and I considered myself ucky that another person came along who saw her warts and all and thought "I can change her".

They were being transferred to Japan for shore duty and didn't want to take the car - I bought it 5 days before they flew across the pond. Cash speaks loudly.
