    Engine swap question 2000 DeVille

I have a 2000 base Deville Y engine 80,000 miles. Excellent body, interior, paint. Head gasket blew the day after I spent $1,000 on tires, battery, alignment and replaced both coils $200 a pop.
Question now is to junk it, repair the heads or replace the motor. Since the 2004 has the new coarse thread headbolts I would like to buy a used 2004 engine. S+Found one with a 3 year warranty for $1,500 delivered. Will it button up to a 2000? Cost to swap? Any suggestions? Kelly Blue book $3,500.

    Thanks!

Not all '04's have coarse thread head bolts, and the ignition system is different.

Direct fit engines would be '00-'03, but there's no way to tell if there's an HG issue until it's installed and running in your car.

If your engine is fine otherwise, insert or stud the block, all 20 bolt holes. Tons of threads on the topic, here, Seville/Eldorado, and the Northstar forums.

    Repair
    You did not post location.
There are a few shops that specialize in NorthStar repair.
I think it around three grand for them to pull the motor repair/replace known NorthStar problems and put the motor back in.

    He's in Charleston, SC.

I'd repair what you have. The devil you know vs the devil you don't.

Thanks guys. An addtional $3000 into a 2000 Caddy sounds like throwing money away. I understand I would know what I have as apposed to buying a strange engine, but I would still have $4,500 in recent repairs in a Caddy worth $3,500.

    Cadillacs rarely make financial sense.
What would you purchase for 3k
Your caddy has another 200k left in it if you care for it.

A caddy never makes financial sense. I know mine didn't.
As for spending 3k in repairs, you can't even buy a nice 2000 honda civic for 3k- maybe a trashed out one. I say fix it (besides, a caddy is much nicer to drive than a honda ).

Have you done the the block test for blown head gasket? My 2001 had most of the symptoms but it only had a collapsed lower radiator hose. I put one on with a wire in it and I have no problem now.
