    2000 Deville overheating problems

car's overheating, had the thermostat, new housing and surge tank replaced. that was last Dec. overheated again this week. found the surge tank empty, took almost a gal of fluid. can't find any leaks. checked all hoses, all lines to heater coil, not a drop. nothing in driveway and dont see a drop under the hood..though maybe the water pump, but dont see any indications of a leak thru the hole that suppost to show wear on the pump. I drive about 6 miles to next town and on the way back it starts to over heat. surge tank almost empty. my only thoughts are pump belt slipping nipple on surge tank pluged, our something with the throttle body ...really need some feedback.

Wrong forum, your Deville is FWD. A mod will move your thread for you.

From what I understand, the engine doesn't overheat until the coolant gets low, correct? If so, that's a good sign. I would suggest renting a cooling system pressure test kit from a major parts store, and pressurizing the system cold to check for leaks. Slow leaks can evaporate in hot engine compartment components before having a chance to create a drip or puddle.

If you recently had that cooling system work done, the engine may simply be purging air from the system. Top it off to the proper level (1/2 full) and see if it goes back down.
