Something is off with this poster. 3 posts with no responses to any of the comments. All the posts are pretty much the same too. I am thinking some sort of scam but not sure what. Perhaps a "lonely hearts" scam? If anyone is thinking of PM'ing the OP I'd be really cautious.

Re: Buying a Used Newer Caddy---Advice Please..

Thanks for the info and advice. Some people offered a lot of good advice.

As far as me being a scammer---seriously?! I DID post a reply at 4 am last night. I'm brand new to this board. I took in the comments and thought things over. Then I posted that the engine needs to be replaced.

I have so much on my mind right now. I've been doing tons of Internet research, making phone calls, etc. I have to make a decision by Monday. Right now, I'm paying for a rental car. I won't even get into just how stressful and emotional this whole ordeal is. People do have genuine auto problems and need advice.

$8K-$10K to replace a 4.5?!?!?! Your dealership is full of it.

...No, thinking quite clearly. The 4.5 and 4.9 engines are some of the best modern cadillac engines in terms of reliability. And they're fairly cheap to repair as well.

The HT 4100 is another story all together.

MoistCabbage....Sorry I was thinking 4.6. Your right the 4.5 and 4.9 are quite reliable.

Well other than oil seepage, and the exaggerated HG issue, Northstars are pretty bomb proof as far as actual reliability goes. Cost of maintenance is higher, not frequency of problems.

There are lots of 2000-04 DTS or DHS's for sale on Craigslist every day for $3-5k. Nice 91-95's for $2-3k. If you don't know a fairly honest shop that can replace your engine with a used one for less then $2k you might as well buy another one; but don't pay top dollar at those used car lots. Good luck.

You claim to be very smart. If so, surely you can see that your posts and posting habits read like a textbook setup for a scam. Your indignation to my suggestion that you are something other then honorary is in itself suspect. If I am wrong I am sorry, but I have been around the block a few times and usually if it walks and talks like a duck....

The posts are a bit odd in a way, I guess, but nothing's been bought or sold here, so I don't see what kind of scam would be going on.

On another note, there's a duplicate thread in the DTS forums.

The hallmarks are there for a setup where some poor schmuck (the mark) sends a PM offering to help. Once the relationship is established, the poor damsel in distress needs more and more. Eventually the schmuck ends up sending money to our poor lonely educated woman (the perfect woman). The fact that no responses were offered for the posts tells me she doesn't care about who responds to the posts, only who responds via PM. The fact that the same message was posted 2 perhaps 3 times in different forums for maximum casting of the net also is a tipoff. I smell a rat.

While certainly not impossible, that is pretty speculative and I have yet to see any evidence of it. I am far from ready to make that kind of accusation.

Slipgate, since you persist in attacking my credibility, I will respond.

Of course I'm going to be ticked off if someone accuses me of being a scammer! Wow---did it take me a whole 48 hours to post my reply about my engine needing to be fixed? I wasn't aware that I was obligated to reply to all comments immediately (sarcasm). Ater all, it's not as if I have anything else going on in my life right now. NO, I don't have a problem in the world. I suppose you think that my 1988 Sedan DeVille doesn't even exist.

I wasn't even aware that this forum had PM's when I registered.

I make my own money, thank you very much. I can afford a used car. I have good credit. The ONLY thing I've asked for is ADVICE.

I'm going through a horribly stressful situation right now, and I don't appreciate having my credibility trashed when I haven't done anything wrong. The nasty comments are uncalled for and really do hurt my feelings. It's mean and cruel.

I can see that whatever I say will be twisted and used against me by people like Slipgate. When I've tried to defend my credibility, he attacks me for defending myself! It's a no-win situation. I probably should just ignore him, but he keeps on trashing me. I know it's no fun to be the "new person" on a discussion forum, but this is one of the cruelest things anyone's ever said to me.

I posted in exactly two different forums. So what? I'm thinking of getting a used Cadillac DTS.

I would love to know exactly which "facts and dollar amounts do not add up". Go ahead and ask me anything, because I have nothing to hide. I AM searching for a used car, so I probably won't be able to answer immediately. Everything I've said is the truth. I don't even understand why anyone would lie on a Cadillac discussion forum! Out of all the possible responses to my posts, I never imagined that I'd get accused of being a scammer. That truly is the LAST thing I ever thought would happen.

I've got a lot of big decisions to make. I probably should just ignore this idiocy, but when someone starts a fight, it's tough to not respond.

I just talked to my brother on the phone. As I said on another forum, he's 500 miles away. He can't be here in person, but hopefully he can help me out with some of this. I live in California. Everything is more expensive in California, so maybe used cars are more expensive here, too. My brother thought that $10,000 for a new engine was way too high.

I really do love Cadillac Devilles, so it would be sad if I had to quit this forum.

One without accusation may still be diligent with Suspicion

For $10k, You should have enough common sense to know you could probably buy 2, perhaps 3 of the same Deville's u currently own and still have enough to repair/rebuild the one you're having issues with ...

Credibility isn't Questioned when one makes Sensible Inquires or Seeks Advice in CF... ...

Perhaps posting the same or similar thread in Multiple forums was some what suspicious

let me assure you - Slipgate is NOT a wacko -

I believe where the skepticism began
is your being quoted $10,000 for a motor -

that number is SO far out of line - it is BEYOND belief -

a completely rebuilt motor would run around $2500 -
add $1000 to install it -

for $3500 - you leave with a "new" motor -

a good used motor would run around $1000 -
so - for $2000 you are back on the road -

bottom line - whoever gave you that quote are nothing but THIEVES -
ASSUMING - your information is accurate -

I really do love Cadillac Devilles,
so it would be sad if I had to quit this forum.

    THAT is your choice -
and THAT would be YOUR loss -
