    95 deville slow crank

I have a problem when starting the car, turns over slow, checked the resistance in the battery cable to starter,it's fine, have replaced the starter and battery. Sounds like the timing is advanced. How do I go about this.Anything need to be connected or disconnected when I hook up the timing light???

Timing is adjusted by the PCM. Unless you or someone else messed with it, it should be fine. It pretty much has to be the battery, cable or starter. I can't imagine anything else that would cause that.

I assume you checked the DTC's?

Sounds like the timing is advanced.
once started - how does the car run?

You would know if the timing was so far advanced
that it affected the cranking speed -
I would expect it to ping like crazy when accelerating -

do a LOAD TEST on the battery -

and do a DRAW TEST on the starter -

I was having a similar problem with my 85. When it was hot it did not like to crank over. Sounded like the timing was to far advanced. This only happened when hot. I replaced the battery twice. Installed all new battery cables with heavy duty including engine ground strap. Went through 3 starters 2 alternators and checked and tweaked the timing many times. I even ran the engine 10 degrees retarded and it still did it. I even replaced the engine with a fresh rebuilt! (Needed it for other reasons mostly low oil pressure). I finally replaced the starter with a reduction gear unit from an Allante 4.5. It has solved all of the starting problems so far and spins over much faster at all times. It fit my 4.1 with a small clearance issue with one of the cable hold down clamps. It just needed to be moved slightly.

I am convinced that these issues where caused by the poor quality of replacement parts. Starters for one.
