    quick question about exhaust

Ive got a 93 deville 4.9L. Ive got a flowmaster in stock location but im not thrilled on the soubd. Does this engine require alot of back pressure? Would it hurt to put a glass pack on it?

The engine requires NO backpressure. Put any muffler/resonator combination on it that floats your boat.

I thought since the EGR valve is the positive back-pressure kind, there would have to be some for proper operation.

    Re: quick question about exhaust

Don't sweat it - the EGR dumps into the intake ports - vacuum side - so as soon as that pintle moves off its seat the slightest exhaust manifold pressure causes gas flow back into the engine............ and there's still the cat to do its damage to free exhaust gas flow after the manifolds and Y-pipe.

Thanks. I like the flowmaster at low rpm but as soon as you get to 2 or above it make a terrbile pop type noise. This engi.ne is in great condition. Runs strong. Just want a deeper growl

    Re: quick question about exhaust

The higher the revs the higher the pitch of the exhaust note, especially in a N* phony dual exhaust setup or in a single exhaust pipe/muffler setup on a V-8. It would be VERY difficult to duplicate the "rap" of real 1965 duals with glasspacks - and remember: each of those exhausts in a true dual system is making 4 cylinder music, not 8. (Let's not get into X-pipes or H-crossovers)

    Re: quick question about exhaust

The engine is a 4.9 - no N*, no phony dual exhaust. Yes, this specific EGR's function is sensitive to backpressure to a point, nothing you need to worry about in the scope of your question. Also, as far as sound, the golden rule is generally the longer the tailpipe, the louder the rap - meaning the closer you can get the muffler to the engine, and the longer you can make the tailpipe from the muffler, the more rap you get. Otherwise, the 4.9 is a low rpm breather and about as old school sounding as you get in a FWD Cadillac.
