'99 DeVille trailer towing jumper harness

    Hey guys,
I am trying to figure out if I have the factory trailer wiring harness..in the manual it states something like...
"if your vehicle is equiped with the 3,000 lb trailer towing package option, your vehicle comes with a pouch containing a trailer towing jumper harness and a trailer stub."

I cannot seem to find this jumper harness in my own car. When I was at the u-pull I was going through the trunk of a '99 DeVille and found this in the trunk..

Is this the jumper harness? It looks like a unit that someone from home could have installed? I found some weird (what likes to be GM assembly line) cards attaches to various wire leading into the harness so maybe someone from the factory put it in??
I might be going back the yard Saturday (to get a fender) so I can take some pics of the cards..

So, what exactly came with the trailer towing package? I think every DeVillle I have seen has a tranny cooler but maybe this was a standard option?

    Thanks,

    Kris

That picture is an aftermarket add on. If your DeVille has trailer wiring it's tucked under back plastic panel in trunk or even drivers side behind carpet. The adapter shown has a newer version out, I guess there were issues with first model.

Thanks, I will try to find it. I assume it will be the standard white, brown, yellow, green 4 pin connector?

The one in my 97 is a big connector that no way fits a standard 4 pin for a trailer. Didn't take a look at the color of the wires.

OK, I will look for it. It likely takes some sort of adapter to make it useful for the 4 pins. I have the service manual now (thus I have a wiring diagram) I could always tap into it if I cannot find a adapter..or at least be able to track down the original trailer plug using the service manual...

Re: '99 DeVille trailer towing jumper harness

    Hey guys,

I think I figured it out. In the wiring section of the manual it says that the plug is C426 (page 8-540) in the '99 service manual.

This seems to be the location of the trunk in the car..

I removed that same plug from another '99 Deville in the yard. These are described as 6 Way F metric-pack 280 series connector with a number of 02984752. The wiring schematic can be seen in the above picture. I assume you can either find a adapter from a 6 way (of which 5 terminals are used) to a standard 4 plug or maybe you can splice it to a 4 way plug. With the splice there seems to be a extra wire for "trailer feed auxillary circuit". Perhaps this is there as a power feed for electric brakes?? Anways, hopefully this helps someone..

I might just try splicing into the circuit with the standard 4 wire plug feed and cap off the extra wire..

The aux feed is more than likely for interior trailer lights but who knows...
My 97 has the cable already at trunk opening and going to need to rewire when putting hitch on this year too. I think you still need the converter box due to turn/stop using same light wiring though.
