BOTTOM LINE is that your engine does not need to be replaced ... any other engine that replaces it 'might' have lower block seal leaks or headgasket issues down the road
(there are no new engines anymore by the way it's either used or rebuilt/reman)
that's why repairing your engine is recommended - that way you can be confident in knowing what the history of your engine is and how it was repaired (studs/bigserts/normserts/etc)

Re: Need advise FAST - War with Caddy dealership over halfcase reseal

Since the Caddy dealership is picking up the tab, the service manager told me they had to send in the old block for a "core" charge to the company. They are also going to do the hafl case seal thing for me before installation (since I just had it done on the old engine) so that it doesn't leak. They did a block test and he said something about gasses was mising with the coolant, and that the head gaskets were blown on the old engine. Anyway, I get a two year warranty on the replacement engine (internal parts) and told them to strip all the new stuff I had just put on the old engine, waterpump, plugs wires, thermostat and belt. They said they would. I personally spoke with the owner of the dealership, and being that we are both US Army retired guys, he is going to take care of me. I think that the Army connection thing saved me.

Sometimes, there is no end to the BS at the dealer.
They use BS to justify the previous BS which leads to more BS to the point where the customer just says "OK, do it".

Must be used, a reman wouldn't need the case resealed. Several of places we get our used engines from require the old one back.

Yea, yards want the old one for $50-$100 in scrap.
Anyone wanna bet the dealer core charge is more than that?

VOATMJ1‎, Ask them why there is a core charge on a used engine. I can't wait to here.
And are you sure they're pickin' up the whole tab?

Tellm to EAT their "Core Charge"

They screwed up your engine ... Which I WILL NOT believe

    BUT, That's their Expense

They Shouldn't have INEXPERIENCED, Mechanics at a Cadillac Dealership (or any dealership) working on an Engine they don't understand

    They'll tell u anything obviously

If you were going to keep the engine to scrap yourself, I guess you would technically have an argument for the core charge issue.

You own the original engine, not them.

They took full responsibility for the replacement.

The cost of the new engine, and any other related expenses is on them. YOUR engine is not for them to give as a core. I don't think it would be unreasonable to tell them you want either the engine, or whatever cash they get from returning the core.

I think it apparent they want his engine

The whole scenario is jus foul from the beginning

    MC made a good point

How are they gonna get a core charge on your property?

For them to "Claim" it as their own property to be reimbursed a percentage of their expenses is pure theft

Taking something which is not yours is theft...

Selling the stolen item that is not yours is Dealing in Stolen Property

Both are Felonies in my state

Re: Need advise FAST - War with Caddy dealership over halfcase reseal

You're splitting hairs and dealing in technicalities. If the dealer buys an engine and the place they get it from charges a core charge, they will pay that charge to whoever buys the engine and turns in the core. They are not going to ask for proof of ownership. This is strictly between the customer and the dealer. Personally, I am surprised that they are eating the bill and since they are and are willing to make it right, I'd let them have the core to offset some of the cost. The dealer could very well have said it was just a coincidence and refused to give VOATMJ1 a dime. Proving fault and recouping money would be a long hard road. Don't look a gift hoarse in the mouth.
