A 49% drop in fluid life in 102K miles would be an average of 1% drop in fluid life every 2081 miles. This is right in line with what other 04-05 Deville owners have reported in the survey below.

*** The info above only applies to the 04-05 Deville. The 03 and earlier Deville uses a different algorithm to display fluid life.

It means that your model DOES decrement and you are only half way to a recommended fluid change (assuming you follow the trans fluid life monitor).

If it was my car I would change the fluid.

I change mine every 5 years which is on track at around 12,000 miles to 15,000 miles a year my trans life reads 79 pecent right now which in two years since i changed it is good so figure three years from now it will be near 50 percent under normal driving conditions and habits which dont change for me which means time for a change i treat my oil life the same i use mobil 1 and in 6 months the oil life reaches around 50 percent and is black and dirty which means time for a change

Under certain conditions (listed in your owners manual), it's recommended to change the fluid every 50K miles. Otherwise, follow the transmission fluid life monitor. Personally, I change mine at between 80K-100K, or before 10 years.

Dark oil absolutely does NOT mean it needs to be changed. You're throwing away money, and perfectly usable oil. 0% or 12 months, whichever occurs first.

Punctuation and sentence structure for sale, cheap !!!

If your Northstar oil is black and dirty at 6 months, 50% and about 4,500 ??? miles, you have big problems..... or you drive exclusively in the city, with long, cold idle times.

I'll buy "turning a sort of clear, dark brown". I change oil/filter once a year (yes, only 5,000 - 6,500 miles, though) and it drains out a clear, dark amber color.

My city is so stop and go, I get ~8 MPG if I don't do any highway driving. No excessively dark oil.
