2005 Deville changed my oil and now my service light is on?

Hey guys, this is my first post.
Purchased an 05 deviile about a month ago with 80,000 miles on it. Since then I have put about 1500 on her. I changed the oil on Wed. with Penzoil 5W-30 High Mileage. The car has run like a dream, no lights issues nothing. Now, I have a service engine soon light on. I ran the codes and these came up:

    IPCU1000
    IPM B0429
    PCMP0171
    PCMP0174

I just dont understand how all of a sudden this could happen...Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

p0171, p0174 are lean codes. Did you do anything with the airfilter? Check to make sure you did not accidentally knock a air inlet hose off. Also, I have seen loose oil caps set this code on very rare occasions.

P0174 Basically means that an oxygen sensor in bank 2 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust)
P0171 Basically means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust)
Could be a vacuum leak. Or a dirty mass air flow sensor.
B0429 can be ignored. Has to do with the rear air door actuator position.
I don't know what the U1000 code is right off hand.

u1000 is a communication code. Ignore it.

Come to think of it, I removed the hose from the air cleaner to be able to check the trans fluid. I willl have to check to make sure. Thanks guys

Re: 2005 Deville changed my oil and now my service light is on?

If your car still has the divorced MAF in the air intake duct, near the filter box, ANY air leak at or after the MAF will set lean mixture codes and a SES light.

In a divorced MAF car you unplug the MAF to check the transmission fluid level with the engine running at idle in P - the fuel delivery system temporarily defaults to a non-MAF mixture - a code will set - but after you hook everything back up and check for tight intake ducting, drive the car a while - the codes disappear.

FWIW, Your transmission is a dry sump unit - there should be NO FLUID on the stick with the engine off.

Thanks. Funny I found that odd about the Trans fluid...you read my mind on that one. I checked everything this morning and drove it to work..so far so good.
    Divorced? is that MAF removable?

Look in my albums - Community tab, Albums, the red Seville. Several pictures of divorced (not bolted to the throttlebody face) MAF's.

P0171 & P0174 IS a vacuum leak and almost always points to a ripped plenum duct.

Just like that? Out of nowhere? That really sucks...What am I looking at cost wise?

Diagnose the leak/codes BEFORE you throw money at it - a leak - any leak - in your air intake ducting at or after the MAF WILL set mixture codes.

The 'plenum' is the rubber/steel connector between the intake manifold and throttlebody face. It is replaced by removing the intake manifold and the 3 long bolts that hold the throttlebody to the water crossover.

Many pictures of all this in my albums.

Cost for a plenum job ??? DIY, $18 and change (shipping for the plenum) plus 2.5 hours and a brew. Dealership - $300 +.

$18 and change ???? www.rockauto.com, your car, engine, intake coupling - Dorman (comes with the 8 gaskets) - $15.

Check the plenum duct by spraying Brakleen, TB cleaner, staring fluid or such around the bottom (6:00 position) while flexing it with your finger. If you hear an RPM increase you have a ripped plenum duct.

Re: 2005 Deville changed my oil and now my service light is on?

So I cleaned the MAF sensor, checked all the clamps and hoses that I could. Cleared the codes and gave it a whirl. Car used to idle at 625/ idles at 775, but seemed to run better, no rough idle at cold start. seemed smoother then the light came on again. I popped hood and low & behold Dumb**s left the plug out of the sensor. It is normal for a engine to run better without the MAF? Should I reset the ECM?

Nothing to reset. I suspect that the MAF sensor was trying to compensate for the vacuum leak. Have you replaced the plenum duct yet?
