1999 Deville - Temp fix for power window stuck open

This applies if your window will roll down, but won’t go back up and you just need it closed so you can drive the car in inclemement weather or you want A/C. You will be using “reverse polarity” and a few incidental items are needed.

What you will need: Two 6” long (approx.) pieces of insulated wire such as speaker wire torn into separate pieces. I used picture hanging wire. 2 female insulated wire connectors and 2 spade/fork insulated wire connectors. Google the images - when you see them you will go “Oh Yeah! That’s what those are called.”

Remove the door panel. There is a video on youtube that shows the procedure for removing the door panel. Watch it once and you will have the procedure down – very quick and easy.

After you remove the panel, reconnect the power window switch – just let it hang there.

Crimp one each of the connectors to each of the wire pieces.

Locate the window motor. Fortunately Cadillac chose to make them very accessible - right beneath the door panel, next to the B pillar.

Carefully unplug the power source so as not to break the clip. On the motor, inside the clip are 2 male connections. Plug the female connections on your two pieces of wire to those.

Now connect the loose ends with the spade/fork connectors to the power source plug by crisscrossing the wires and sliding just one of the prongs on the connector from the top wire (just looking for a temporary connection) into the bottom slot and vice-versa – bottom wire plugs into top slot.

Turn the key on to restore power to the window motor.

Grab the power window button. Due to reverse polarity, instead of pressing forward to raise it, you will press the button as if to lower it. Being reversed, the window should go up. This isn’t theory. It actually worked for me just yesterday. If it doesn’t work – you have other issues – probably the motor. Until I can get it fixed, I just left it unplugged (at the button) so it would not get accidently lowered again.

Yea I think by the time you go through all that just change the switch. Would not have to tear the door panel apart again . But guess in a crunch it would work .

I had the same problem the other day and figured out how to do it myself. This is a switch problem? Is there a pass through for operation from the master switch? I'm pretty puzzled as to why the window wouldn't go up from either switch.

Yes the window wiring goes through master switch then to each window. So if master is bad good poss the other(s) won't work by there switches.
