Tranny gurgle and sloshing sound.

When i first bought my 86 deville, it had a new gm motor with 24k on it. Tranny had 148k. It made all kinds of gurgling and sloshing sounds when decellerating from about 10 to 0. It did this until 192k when i lost 3rd gear. The funny this is, i had my tranny rebuilt and it still makes these sounds. Is this common or is it the special VCC or something???

Re: Tranny gurgle and sloshing sound.

are you positive the noise is from the transmission ? and not from the fuel tank ? From what i remeber there is a few instances of fuel tank baffles coming apart in your generation deville..

I wouldnt think its related to the VCC as it shouldnt be doing anything at that speed....if it is indeed related to the tranny i would say youve gotten a poor rebuild ..one thing ive learned over the years is that just becuse its new or rebuilt doesnt mean it isnt suspect

Noises are hard to daignose over the internet , unless you can send me an MP3 or wave of the noise ? probabaly why your not getting much action

Re: Tranny gurgle and sloshing sound.

Oh, no. definetly up front noise and tranny related, infact it also slightly jerks the car when making this sound. Could this be when the converter starts slipping the most in order to not stall the car?? If that makes any sense. Seems to do it in the summer the most, dont think it does it now, just was reminded of it when reading another post.

Re: Tranny gurgle and sloshing sound.

hmm ...maybe the tranny filters sealing ring isnt right and its sucking air?...this sounds like a wierd problem ....it could be the converter ..but most of the time when there not right itll also feel really odd on acceleration ....

but it sounds temp related .....this might sound stupid but how do you go about checking the tranny fluid level ? do you have the car running ,warm and in park when you do it ? Reason i ask is i had a guy (a fellow ase mechanic) who overfilled a tranny one time because he thought he was supposed checked the level with the engine off..I cought the problem before the trauck was started ...so i have no idea on how a overfull tranny would act ....

so it may be an issue of the tranny being overfull and when its hot the fluid expands too much for the tranny .....
