Hello all, I have a 2003 deville dts 147k. It seems like whenever the steering wheel is straight, I get a king of high pitched vacuum noise but if I turn the steering wheel even slightly off center the sound goes away. I was thinking that maybe there was some kind of steering assist that was being bypassed with the wheel straight, but that's just a guess. No power steering leaks at all. Just wondering if anyone knows what this sound is.
Happens even when I'm in park. It's strange I thought it was the a/c at first but I found the link to the steering wheel the other day. Kind of sounds like when you turn the car off and the a/c depressurization but its constant.
Power steering fluid level is good. Not sure if the fluid has ever been changed but it doesn't look filthy. I don't think it's a belt slip issue. Especially since I only get the noise when the steering wheel is perfectly straight. Car has always done it in the year that I have owned it. Just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this.
