Info center glitch - 1995 Deville

Hi all, we just purchased a 1995 sedan DeVille. A gem meticulously cared for by a man in Florida. Perhaps we could get some help from our Cadillac friends. Our info Panel is not working. First, it's not responding to reset things. Second, info keeps popping up on the dashboard screen. We can't seem to reset. Change oil, service air bag, etc. and others keep popping up. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    -------------------------
checking for codes takes two minutes -
maybe three if it's your first time -

an AC system - in PERFECT working condition -

with the AC set to 60* -
blower on a medium speed -
ambient temp in the mid 80's -
    engine at a high idle - 1500rpm -

the air discharged from the center duct
should be between 37* to 42*
    ----------------------

info keeps popping up on the dashboard screen.
We can't seem to reset. Change oil, service air bag, etc.

these may be WARNINGS that CAN'T be "RESET" -

the CHANGE OIL message is in response to the OIL LIFE MONITOR reaching 0% life -

change the oil - flip through the DIC messages - find OIL LIFE % -
press - and HOLD the reset button - until it displays 100% -

that will turn OFF the CHANGE OIL message -
    -----------
SERVICE AIRBAG is another WARNING -
telling you there is something is wrong with the SIR system -

you can't "RESET" this message -
it will automatically go away once the airbag problem is fixed -

Thanks for the site to pull codes, very cool, DeVille Babe.

    ----------

Basscatt, thanks for all ur help, let me add, I bought a auto thermometer at autozone,in my chrysler town and country, its 40 degrees (actual). However in the DeVille its 60(actual). It should hover around 40 I would think.

    ----------

    Any clues?

step #1 - is always to check for codes -

to diagnose an AC problem -
you need to connect a QUALITY gauge set -

    then list the pressure readings
for BOTH the HIGH pressure side -
    and LOW pressure side -

40 Degrees is ideal, but I have seen few cars (especially older ones) get that low. That said, 60 is a tad on the warm side. 50-55 would be acceptable. On a car this old you could have an air mix door not closing completely or the foam rubber seal on the door may be deteriorated and thus bleeding warm air into the air stream.

    -------------------------
there are LOTS of things that could be the problem -

a MIX door that is stuck -
allowing some heated air into the cabin -

the RECIRCULATE door might be stuck -
allowing too much outside air into the cabin -

the freon charge might be low -
only the pressure readings can determine this -

I thought that some of the heater system problems like if the doors aren't in the position they're supposed to be in it throws a code.

This is one of the many cases where the factory service manual comes in to play.
