I cleaned the throttle body plate. No change at all. Hey jt, could you send or post a pic of the vacuum lines that you checked.

Does anyone have any clue as to why an engine would start to stall at operating temperature?

Submariner, would leakage from the blowback valve cause stalling (especially at ot)?

If the overpressure valve were leaking you would hear it - If you don't have a mechanic's stethoscope either get one from a NAPA store or make one - Walgreen, stethoscope. Take it to a large parts store with Help! racks. Remove the 'scope chest diaphrgm and find a vacuum connector and 2 feet of proper sized rubber vacuum tubing. Replace the chest diaphragm with that tubing. Now use the rig to snoop for noises, hissssses, clicks, ticks, etc.. (Don't get your thing caught in a serpentine belt ........... )

There's a strong hissing sound coming from the right rear of the power steering fill point.

That's the manifold over pressurization relief valve.

The hissing noise is coming from the manifold over pressurization relief valve? Is that normal? If not, could that be causing me to have issues with stalling?

No, it's not normal. It means it's leaking, and yes, that can cause stalling.

It's either a deformed, detached or dirty seal (orange in the picture).

Re: 1999 DeVille stalling, have codes

Ok, so I've cleaned the coils and checked the fpr with no issues. Last effort before replacing the fuel pump module is replacing the blowback valve. I contacted Chris at Rippy and ordered the blowback valve along with a new set of manifold gaskets. Before I jump into this blindly I've been trying to do as much research as I can, as well as buy any tools and replacement parts needed. So far, I've bought the blowback valve, manifold gaskets, fuel pressure quick release tool. I'm going to pick up a torque wrench. Is there anything else (tools or replacement parts, gaskets) that I need or should replace? I'll also mention it was recommended to me that I have the intake as well as the throttle body taken to be dipped/cleaned. So, this means the throttle body will be removed. Also, I've been reading up on how to remove the intake from this thread

Is there much of a difference between the 2000+ and my 1999?

There is no need to dip anything. Just clean the TB bore and throttle plate with carb or TB cleaner. Toothbrush and rags are all you need . Don't waste money needlessly.

The Northstar was redesigned in 2000 so there are quite a few differences. The manifold over pressurization relief valve is totally different and at the opposite end for one, if that is what you mean.

Re: 1999 DeVille stalling, have codes

Forgive my ignorance. My manifold over pressurization relief valve is on the passenger side of my engine. While looking through the pictures in the thread I posted up before, which is for a 2000+ it seems to also show the relief valve also on the passenger side. If that's not the case can you point me in the direction of a thread that does cover the process. I checked a YouTube video about removing the intake but it completely bypassed all the other things that have to be loosened and removed in order to remove the intake.

I appreciate the heads up, I guess I'll hold off on getting it dipped. I already cleaned the tb but I'd like to give it a thorough cleaning with the opportunity.

Yours is on the passengers side in the tunnel behind the P/S pump. The 2000+ is on the drivers side under the TB as pictured below courtesy of Submariner409.

Re: 1999 DeVille stalling, have codes

I just got my parts in from Rippy Cadillac. I plan on tackling this in the morning. Can anyone recommend a thread or video that goes into detail on how to remove the intake manifold (including vacuum/fuel lines if needed) on a 1999 Deville?

Re: 1999 DeVille stalling, have codes

I searched for intake, manifold, starter, gasket, plenum, blowback, relief and pressurization (individually). Any other words I might be overlooking?

If anyone has done this before, can you please post up or shoot me a PM on how to do this? I'd really appreciate it.
