Parking Brake Issues - 01 Deville

Hey all, its odd but I didn't see too many threads about this..

My parking brake was having issues from the first day I got the car. It would never return back to the full resting position without a little help. I would shift out of park, it would release, I would keep my foot on the brake, depress the parking brake while in gear and then it would retract.

So a week or two ago, i did that and i heard a metallic clinging like a snap of a spring. It still retracts, I can still drive, I do not feel drag but the brake light is on all the time and every time i shift out of a gear the parking brake tries to release. I went on rockauto and bought a new spring for it, what's the procedure to replace it and is that my only problem?

How can I get access to these parts? Are they exposed under the dash or do i have to remove some panels?

GM/Helm service manual set. Either eBay or www.helminc.com

For instant gratification, look at subscribing the car to www.alldatadiy.com

I'm subscribed to alldatadiy, I don't see anything there about the parking brake as far as what's under the dash inside the car.
