    `95 Deville---power antenna not working.

The other day i turned the car off and this loud grinding noise from the trunk starts---only happens when the ignition is off.I located the source of the grinding in the trunk and pulled out 1 of the connections to the antenna and the noise stopped. Now the antenna is stuck in the fully extended position, which is ok but i can`t run it through a car wash with it extended without it snapping off or getting bent.

Is it difficult to replace the entire power antenna assembly? Are there any good replacements available online somewhere that will just connect with the same original connections and same original mounts, without modifications ? If so,where?

    Thanks for any help.

It's not difficult to replace or repair it. All it needs is a new cable. Dealers are supposed to have repair kits, but when I needed one I couldn't even find one who knew what I was talking about. You can find one here though. http://www.antennamastsrus.com

There is a tutorial on the repair in the Tech Tips section.

My antenna is gone... can I replace it with one that doesn't extend and retract? Personally, I'd like a shorter stationary antenna. I don't really use the am fm in the car and I pretty much just want something to plug the hole and pick up local radio stations... and I get local stations with no antenna. 97 sts

You can replace it with any universal antenna that fits in the hole in the quarter panel.

If it's grinding and not just making it's normal noise you'll probably need more then just the mast. You can get used power antennas on ebay or junk yards, they use the same one as other GMs of the same time and they aren't hard to change.
